Hildegard's Dreams

The program HILDEGARD'S DREAMS is based on the transcendental and healing music of ST. HILDEGARD (1098-1179) and the works of EVIJA SKUĶE (1992), a representative of the young generation of Latvian composers, as well as the compositions for organ of 13th –16th century. Enjoy the acoustic space of the church, the echoes of eight female voices, organ and hurdy-gurdy or ratalira, an exotic medieval instrument made in Latvia, as well as other peculiar sound sources - clay birds, vibratones and percussion which will create a heavenly and meditative atmosphere offering the most beautiful environment for the pearls of medieval and renaissance music!

Evija Skuķe

EVIJA SKUĶE (1992) is a dynamic and vibrant Latvian composer, whose effervescent talent for composing has been apparent since her early studies. Her oeuvre includes pieces for various chamber ensembles, choral music and symphonic opuses.

Skuķe’s music is intense and full of movement, always enriched with imaginative ideas. Her scores are full of an elemental energy, surprising with their cheeky jokes and expressive rhythmic vocabulary. Taut drama gives the composer’s pieces an intriguing and unpredictable musical flow.

Kristīne Adamaite

KRISTĪNE ADAMAITE is a wideknown Latvian organist, working in several churches in Riga, Latvia and teaching the young organists at different music schools and academies in Latvia. She gives regular concerts both as a soloist and in collaboration with choirs and singers and has been performed in many European countries, Russia, Australia, the USA and Canada.

Adamaite is characterised as a “trustworthy and inspiring comrade in arms for all of the many choirs and soloists who invite her along on their adventures in music making”. In 2014, she won the Latvian Grand Music Award for outstanding work in an ensemble. Adamaite’s concerts very often include Latvian music, and they just as often feature premieres of music by Latvian composers, such as Rihards Dubra, Maija Einfelde, Ēriks Ešenvalds, Kārlis Lācis, Juris Karlsons, Georgs Pelēcis, Andrejs Selickis, Pēteris Vasks, Imants Zemzaris and many others.

Putni

The vocal group PUTNI (BIRDS) was established in 1993 in Riga by eight singers from the leading professional choirs in Latvia. The women's vocal ensemble is revered for their beautiful tone and adventurous programming and has received wide acclaim for their concerts in Latvia, Europe, Australia, Japan and the United States.

The group has won numerous prizes including the Grand Prix in five international competitions. Their programming weaves together traditional Latvian music, new compositions by Latvian and foreign composers, music of classical and early music composers, and elements of jazz and rock music. Since its founding, group have premiered over 100 new pieces by Latvian and foreign composers and recorded seven CDs.
